Community Music Program
The Community Music Program provides high-quality music instruction to the community
at large, and hands-on teaching experience for university students. At the Community
Music Program, we believe that the beginning years of musical instruction are crucial
in developing a young musician's understandings of technique, learning skills, and
performance practice; thus, we provide instruction that strives to achieve these goals.
Fall 2026 September Update:
- We are not taking registrations for private lessons this fall.
- The UCM Children鈥檚 Choir is meeting! We will start rehearsals on Sept 10.
The Community Music Program provides high-quality music instruction to the community at large, and hands-on teaching experience for university students. At the Community Music Program, we believe that the beginning years of musical instruction are crucial in developing a young musician's understandings of technique, learning skills, and performance practice; thus, we provide instruction that strives to achieve these goals.

The mission of the Community Music Program encompasses two goals:
1. Provide high quality musical instruction to the community at large. CMP students and their instructors will collaborate on the development of short- and long-term goals. Instructors will devise a plan for achieving those goals, easily reproducible practice strategies, and opportunities to develop skills in performance. We believe that the beginning years of musical instruction are the most critical to ensuring a lifetime of enjoyment. To that end, developing technically correct practice, learning, and performing processes are of the utmost importance.
2. Provide hands-on teaching experience for university students. Students are not expected to be master teachers; in fact, this may be their first true 鈥渇ield鈥� experience. They are expected to improve by observation, self-reflection, and experience. They may consult periodically with university faculty for advice as necessary
Payment for Children鈥檚 Choir can be made two ways:
- Use our UCM Ticket Portal for credit card payments. Note that a 3 dollar credit card
fee will be added to the $85 tuition, for a total of $88.
- You can avoid the $3 fee if you send a check for $85, payable to UCM Music, on or
before our first rehearsal to:

***Note that there is no pro-rating of tuition for students who join the choir after Sept 10***
Students between 6-18 will get an introduction to the choral experience through this ensemble that will be taught by UCM students in training to become music teachers and choral directors.
Time and Location: 4:00-5:00 Grinstead 129 (and other classrooms in same hallways)
on the UCM Campus.
(Closest parking is on at the Visitor Lot on South Street, just off of Maguire.)

Choir will meet at 4:00pm on the following Thursdays in Grinstead 129.

Dress rehearsal and Concert will take place on Sat Dec 5.
Dress rehearsal on stage: 9:15am-9:40am
